Show Us Your Life: Thanksgiving traditions

I know it's been a while since we participated in Kelly's Korner "Show Us Where You Live" but we're back! This weeks focuses on Thanksgiving traditions. Thanksgiving day is one of my favorite days of the year. I love waking up to the smell of turkey in the oven and watching the Macy's parade--it marks the beginning of the Christmas season for me. Oh, and to top it off a local station (WDOK 102.1) begins playing non-stop 24/7 Christmas music! Do I even have to mention the food?!
When Lou & I got married we quickly learned how hectic holidays had become. It's tough to get around to numerous houses with just the two of us and even more crazy now that we are a family of THREE! Last Thanksgiving, Dominic was exactly two weeks old. We packed up and headed over to my mom's house for Thanksgiving dinner with family. Immediately things were crazy as my mom's old house that was on the market flooded from the top-down. Despite the craziness it was still wonderful to spend time with my mom, brother & Oma. I love helping my mom & grandmother cook and have done so for as long as I can remember. It was also nice for my brother, Brett to spend time with his nephew & Godson. The day was long and kinda nerve racking for two brand new parents but we made it through!
A tradition that Lou & I share every "Black Friday" night is putting up our Christmas Tree and decorations. Another reason I get so excited for the 24/7 Christmas music. We make hot chocolate, put the radio on, put the "fireplace channel" on the tv and just get in the spirit. I'm excited to continue this tradition with Dominic (when's he older of course) and hopefully he loves the holiday season as much as we do! :)

Dominic at 2 weeks old. The mitten hands were a necessity-he loved to scratch himself! Can you believe this kid will be ONE a week from today!?

Dominic with his Great Oma. He was ready for his thanksgiving meal and a bit cranky

This was so cute, but just a tad bit too big for him. He looks like he's doing his best puppy impersonation. lol

Thanks for stopping by! :)
